From Modest Roots

The story of Nexo Financials began in 1999 inside a two-car garage in Portsmouth, Virginia, where our founders first shaped the vision for what the bank would become: a community-focused institution built on hiring exceptional employees, fostering a family-like culture, involving local board members, and delivering outstanding customer service—all while offering modern, upscale banking facilities powered by leading-edge technology.

Nexo Financials opened its doors on April 8, 1999, launching three offices with funding raised from over 4,000 shareholders. Within just 11 months, the bank turned a profit, and growth has continued ever since. Today, Nexo Financials operates more than 40 banking locations across Hampton Roads and Central Virginia, along with Northeastern and Central North Carolina.
